Mr. Lonnie Jones, Jr. was born to the parentage of Juanita Falcon Jones and Lonnie Jones, Sr. in Granville County, North Carolina on December 26, 1947. He was raised by his maternal great grandmother, Zenora Russell.
He was educated in Granville County Public Schools and graduated from Mary Potter High School in 1967. Immediately following graduation he moved to Newark, N.J. and wed Alice Patricia Ridley. Through this union they raised five children.
Upon returning to Oxford, Lonnie enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1975 and served until 1988. He was employed by Burlington Mills as a Machine Operator for 15years and later by Newton Instrument Company until retiring after his health declined. Lonnie was a faithful member of Faith Temple Deliverance Baptist Church where he sang with the Male Chorus. He was fond of all types of sports and especially enjoyed cheering on the Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins, Duke and Carolina basketball, spending time with his children and grandkids, and he loved his Masonic family where he served as a Postmaster of New Jonathan Creek Lodge # 722.
Lonnie was adored and loved by many and was well known for his sweet spirit, comical nature, and style of dress. He will be truly missed but God loved him best and called him to his eternal home on Tuesday, December 19th. Lonnie was preceded in death by his mother, father, great grandmother, and grandson CJ.
He is survived by four daughters; Alecia Jones, Kimberley Jones-Scott (Terry), Sheri' J. Jones (Calvin) and Tiffany P. Jones all of Oxford, NC; three sons, Barry D. Jones (Chekesha), Jonathan S. Jones and LaBonta C. Hester all of Oxford, NC; God-mother, Bessie Mae Lyons of Oxford, NC; six sisters, Deborah Hargrove (Eugene) of Creedmoor, NC, Rose Marie Johnson of Newark, NJ, Janie Robinson and Jackie Jones both of East Orange, NJ, Evie Hester of Chapel Hill, NC, and Lashaun Mapp of Washington, DC; five brothers, Philip Jones of Durham, NC, Larry Jones (Luciana), of Millstone, NJ, Garry Jones of East Orange, NJ, Arthur Jones of Bloomfield, NJ and Jimmy Robinson of Orange, NJ; two God-brothers, Jessie Fields (Janie) and Toney Fields (JoAnn); four God-sisters, Emma F. Edwards, Bessie Smith, Deborah Ann Fields and Catherine F. Daniels (Earl); 14 grandchildren, Damon, Tevon, Katiera, Jalen, Tory, Khiliel, Karry, Nyrobia, Jada, Jayden, Keyari, Keyani, Heaven-A'lyce, Jordan, one great grandchild, Kaina; a special friend Elizabeth Wilson; best friends, Waddell Watkins and Alice Ridley Jones and a host of other relatives and friends.
