Annie Doris Allen, God’s precious angel was called home on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Toney Rest Home in Oxford. She was born January 29, 1926 in Oxford, North Carolina to the late Drewery W. Allen and Lucille Allen.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she attended faithfully until her health declined. She served on the Pastor’s Aid Committee, the Missionary Circle, Usher Board and was know to hit off tunes in the choir. But that didn’t bother her because she was singing unto the Lord.
Doris never married and had no children but she took care of her nieces and nephews when they would come home as if they were her own. She loved them all dearly.
Aunt Doris, as she was affectionately called, was a very loving and kind person. She attended the Senior Center to give her something to do but instead of her participating she was there making sure everyone else was good. She was the same way when she became a resident of Toney Nursing Home. If you didn’t know any better you would think she was a nurse without a uniform.
She leaves to cherish many memories, a devoted nephew, Anthony Wright of Oxford; a devoted niece, Jackie Phinx of Winston Salem, NC; nieces, Edith Penny, Catherine Williams, Dr. Arcilia Jeffreys, Paula C. Jones, Elizabeth Barnette and Janice Downey: nephews, Aaron Allen, Arthur Phinx, Jr., Elijah Strater and many other relatives that will greatly miss her.
She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Blanche, Pattie Mae, Lillian, Waverly, Ellis, Crawford and Elijah.
