Bernice (Allen) Wiggins

Bernice Allen Wiggins, 86 passed on Monday, July 5, 2021 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born July 10, 1934 to Flora Smith and Hubert "Doc" Allen. She attended Granville County Schools and was a member of the Class of 1954. She joined Oak Grove Baptist Church at an early age where she was a very active member in several civic organizations, Les Gemmes, Inc. (charter member, chaplain and treasurer), Cosmetology Club #54, Rose Garden Club and a Halifax Street representative.

Bernice's love for doing hair lead her to Deshazur Beauty College where she became a licensed cosmetologist and served for over 60 years. Later she became very active in the Granville County Public School System where she became a volunteer and then transitioned into a substitute teacher where she worked for over forty years until her health declined.

She is survived by two sons, James Andrew Wiggins (Lori) of Raleigh, North Carolina and Levander Earl Wiggins of Decatur, Georgia; one sister, Eunice Allen Eaton of Oxford, North Carolina, one foster sister, Janet Jones (Linton) of Maryland, a  granddaughter, Teeghan D. Wiggins of Raleigh, North Carolina, five nieces, Ellarine P. Alston (James), Lettie H. Tillman, Carol A. Williams )Rodney) all of Oxford, North Carolina, Rose Ann Williams, and Esther Williams of Chicago, Illinois, four nephews, Tai E. Pulliam, Jr. (Evonne) and Ernest Allen both of Oxford, North Carolina, Albert Pulliam, Jr. (Chris) of Durham, North Carolina and Louis Williams (Roberta)  of Chicago, Illinois and special recognition to Cynthia Harris Anderson, her lifelong friend and to Wallace Peterson who opened his home and heart making sure she was comfortable.
