Lue Thornton Obituary

Lue Perry Thornton, affectionately known as Perry, was born on January 15, 1943, in Granville County, North Carolina, to the late Nathaniel and Beulah Thorpe Thornton. He peacefully departed his earthly life on November 6, 2023, at Brantwood Rehab Center.

Perry received his education in Granville County public schools, where he laid the foundation for a life marked by hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of his dreams. At an early age, he joined New Hope Granville Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford, NC, where he found solace and a spiritual home.

On July 8, 1988, Perry found true love when he married the late Mary Elizabeth Thornton, who became the love of his life. Their union was a testament to enduring love, and though she preceded him in death, their bond remained unbroken.

Throughout his life, Perry was a dedicated and industrious worker. He was employed with Harriett-Henderson Cotton Mills and later with Revlon, where he diligently contributed his time and effort until his well-deserved retirement.

Perry leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by three loving daughters, Esther Estes, Doris Harris, and Evangelist Mary Overby (James), all of Henderson, North Carolina. He is also survived by two sons, Silas Harris, Jr., of Henderson, North Carolina, and Willi Mack Harris (Shekeyria) of Brunswick, Georgia. Perry's caring nature extended to his adopted daughter, Patricia Cooper (Anthony) of Warrenton, North Carolina.

In addition to his children, Perry is survived by two sisters, Estelle Puryear (David) and Geneva Harris, and one brother, William Thornton (Shelia). He is also remembered by two aunts, Ruby Thornton and Gracie Thornton, all of Oxford, North Carolina.

Perry's legacy continues through his thirteen cherished grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and dear friends who will forever treasure the love, guidance, and warmth he shared.

In his journey through life, Perry was preceded in death by his brothers, Nathaniel Thornton and John Thornton, and by three sisters, Flossie T. Bass, Hallie T. Allen, and Esther Terry. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved them.

Perry Thornton's life was a testament to strength, love, and dedication. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity, forever etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
