Barbara Anne Black Puryear was born in Oxford NC on July 19, 1940 to the late Cicero and Lizzie Hawley Black.
In the 1960’s, Barbara moved to New Jersey and turned her passion for cooking into a successful catering business. She also worked a steward for some of the most affluential citizens of Short Hills, Somerset County & Peapack New Jersey. In the 1990’s Barbara relocated to NC and continued her career as a steward for several doctors and residences of Oxford. They remained friends and an active part of her life.
Barbara became a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church in the late 90’s and was a member of the Usher Board Ministry.
On December 8th, 2018 Barbara was called to her Eternal Home. She leaves to cherish her fond memories, two daughters; Nikita Black and Tyree Black of New Jersey, One son, Alexander Lee Black of New Jersey preceded her in death, 11 Grandchildren; Nikee Black, Fateya Black, Davon Sanders, Kyle Gettys, Kiyla Gettys, Dequan Black, Shy-Deek Gettys, Alquan Black, Zamir Black, Dominique Black and Kanajjah Harris Barber, each residing in New Jersey, Three Great-Grandchildren; Sa’Kai Black of NC, Jahlil Black of NC, & Kaiyon Gettys of NJ. Three sisters; Mary F. Hinton (Sharon Jr.) of Garner NC, Gloria V. Booker of Yonkers, NY and Mamie Christine Pulliam (Albert) of Durham, NC. Two brothers preceded her in death; Her Twin, Bobby James Black & Andrew Thomas Black (Ida) of Butner.
