A much loved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother Ronald Smith, Sr. of Durham, NC passed away June 26, 2018. He was born in Shelby, Mississippi; having moved to Durham, North Carolina. He received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps.
Smith was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Creedmoor North Carolina and was the owner and operator of MAPAS Transport of Durham, NC. His hobbies were fishing; hunting, gardening and he thoroughly enjoyed his grandsons and was currently enjoying his employment with the United States Postal Service.
Smith was also a truck driver for various transport companies and employed with the City of Durham in previous years. Mr. Smith was also known for his “corny” jokes, wisdom and attention to detail. He was extremely friendly waving at all neighbors going and coming. He would probably be known as the neighborhood watchman.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Thomas Smith; sons Ronald (Shiree`) Smith, Jr., Lynwood (Nateshia) Smith, Jr.; grandsons Ayden, Ace and Tralin; granddaughters Brittany, Ashley, Teshlyn and Kaylin; great granddaughter Zoe; mother Mary Smith; three sisters Debra B. Mathis, Gwendolyn G. Allen and Carolyn G. (Ray) Carter; Seven brothers, Major (Gunita) Black, Roosevelt (Barbra) Grant, Sylvester Grant, Richard Grant, Jr; Ronald (Linda), Daryl Grant, Kelvin (Linda); two aunts Ira Smith Durr and Gloria S. Dawson, mother in law Dorothy Coley Thomas, sister in law T. Carolyn Thomas (Calvin) Harris and brother in law Lester R. Thomas, Sr. and a host of other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Guss and Millie Smith, sister Marilyn Grant, his father John Hymnan and a special aunt Jessie M. Smith.
